CURRIES Helps Break Ground on New Habitat for Humanity Home

August 21, 2008 marked the groundbreaking ceremony of a new Habitat for Humanity home to be built in Mason City, Iowa, which CURRIES is helping to sponsor. Many employees donate their personal time to help with the construction of the home.

The home will be built for the Kathy Dodeon family. Kathy is the single mother of two sons, Brandon (19) and Nathan (17), both of whom have disabilities that make living in their current home very difficult. Brandon has been diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy which causes motor skill and mobility issues while Nathan has Spina Bifida and is confined to a wheelchair. The new home will be built with more accessibility and outfitted to better meet their needs.

Participating in the groundbreaking on behalf of CURRIES were Jerry Currie, President (pictured at far left), Doug Schroeder, Manager of Shared Services (second from left) and Mark Evers, Director of Human Resources (fourth from left).

According to Doug Schroeder, CURRIES volunteer coordinator for the Habitat project:

“This is a great opportunity for CURRIES to give back to our community and help a family that needs assistance.  It is also great to hear from so many CURRIES employees that are willing to donate their time to help build the home.”
