What is a good resource for a technical description of CURRIES frames and doors (e.g. - steel specifications, physical performance, thermal properties, sound, paint, etc)?

Where can I find design specifications?

Does CURRIES have products that comply with a windload impact of 130mph?

The customer needs to supply the desired design pressure for each opening.  Our product is tested to a maximum design pressure.  The wind load is converted into a design pressure with adjustment factors for terrain, height above grade, importance factor, and opening location in the building.  These may affect the design pressure by a factor of 4. 

What is the difference between bonderizing & phosphatizing?

Bonderizing is a tradename for phosphatizing.  CURRIES uses specialized equipment to apply an iron phosphatizing coating to the steel to improve paint adhesion and increase rust resistance.

Are there door crush test specifications that CURRIES products meet?

The only industry standard for crush test specifications for hollow metal doors is ASTM F1450 for Detention Facilities.  Our continuous hinge and lock channels improve the performance of our door in this test.

Door Questions?

I have CURRIES products with rusting labels. What can be done to fix or replace the labels?

They can be painted or they can be replaced, but all replacements of fire labels have to be done under a field service inspection.

Can CURRIES fire label a 6080-E6 door? The chart only goes to 6870.

The E6 has equal positive and negative pressure label capabilities as the 707 except for limitations due to availability of the E6 steel.

Can doors with louvers be positive pressure fire labeled?

Yes, the limitations for louvers are shown on the Fire Labeled Door Chart in the CURRIES Product Brochure.

Can doors with panels be labeled?

Yes, UL only with ½" UL panel up to 90 minutes.  Maximum door size is 4080, maximum panel size is 3030 (FG2 allowed), ¾" stop height required. 

Where can the label be located on a Transom panel?

It is located on the face of the panel. 

Can CURRIES make and label a door with a rabbeted hinge edge?

No. 

Does CURRIES have a 727 door with a 450° temp. rise fire rating? If yes, what label code is used?

We do not have a separate 450° temp. rise fire label, but the 250° temp. rise rated 727 door can be used in any application calling for 450° or 650° temp. rise rating.

Can the 737 door have a mail slot or viewer at level 2 bullet resistance?

Our 737 was tested flush and glazed to UL752, Level 2 bullet resistance.  We don’t have certification to use a mail slot or viewer in the 737 door. 

Can a wood transom panel be used in a pair or double opening?

Yes, within limitations of wood door manufacturer’s label procedures.

Can CURRIES provide a 8x25 window in a door with an anemostat kit & firelight glass?

Listed and labeled kits can be used with our doors.  Check with the window kit manufacturer for installation details and approved glazing with their kits.

What is difference between bonderizing & phosphatizing?

Bonderizing is a trade name for phosphatizing.  CURRIES uses specialized equipment to apply an iron phosphate coating (phospahtizing) to the steel during the cleaning process before painting to improve paint adhesion and increase rust resistance. 

What is the Sound Transmission Coefficient (STC) on a pair of 747 doors?

This value has not been defined through testing.  The value may approach the STC of a 747 single if a good quality sound seal system is used in the paired assembly.

Can CURRIES provide a 727 Door With Type 8 Moulding?

The Type 8 kit can be used in a 727 door.  It is probably specified because a temperature rise glazing is being used by the customer that requires a wider pocket.  Temperature rise rating is retained if the area is 100 square inches maximum and subject to approval by local jurisdiction.

Can CURRIES make an Integral Flush Pull on a door?

Yes, but we recommend that the customer purchase a flush pull manufactured with specialized tooling to eliminate the sharp edges and provide a more aesthetic finished look than we can provide on an integral pull.

Can CURRIES provide cladding on a door and or frame? If so, can a clad door or frame be fire labeled?

We have specially prepared doors and frames to receive cladding, but we do not apply the cladding.  Applying cladding to CURRIES fire rated doors and frames voids the fire label. 

Which of CURRIES doors would be best for a powder coat finish?

None of our doors work well with a powder coat finish due to the high temperature to cure the paint.  All doors have body filler on the door edge to fill welds or seams.  The body filler tends to crack and fall out when heated above 300°F.  If a customer powder coats a door CURRIES is not responsible for the effect on the body filler.  The 707 door adhesive and polystyrene core will both be destroyed at these temperatures.  Only the 747 door should be considered for applying a powder coat finish, but CURRIES will not warrant the outcome. 

What is the correct method for removing a closer reinforcement?

The correct way would be to drill all of the welds on the top end channel and remove the closer reinforcement along with the end channel.

What product meets the requirements of ASTM F476-96?

The 847 and 857 have passed the Grade No. 40 requirements of this standard. See Engineering Specifications Brochure for additional details.

Can CURRIES offer Pyrostop glazing in a door if it requires a pocket greater than 1-5/8" pocket?

Exterior grade Pyrostop requires a 1-11/16" minimum pocket width. We can only offer this in a 2" thick door. The exterior grade Pyrostop can be offered in a 1-3/4" door because the pocket is less than 1-5/8".

Can CURRIES supply E6 embossed panel doors in opening heights between 6’8" and 7’0"?

Yes, these doors can be supplied in any opening height increment (e.g. 6’10½") between these heights.

Can CURRIES make a CURRIStain door with a 24 x 24 lite kit or just cutout only?

Yes we can, it has to be our type 1 kit.

Can we have two lites on a 727 door?

Yes, you can as long as the lites together do not exceed 100 sq. inches. Example: 2 lites with each lite being 5" x 10", with 6" between each lite.

Frame Questions?

Does CURRIES offer bituminous coating, asphalt emulsion or cold tar coatings in the bakcs of frames?

Pursuant to SDI Industry Alert document 127J-04 it is recommended that these coatings are not to be applied by the manufacturer but rather when the frame is ready to be installed.

Can CURRIES fire label oversize sidelites?

A fire ‘construction’ label may be applied under certain conditions when the frame size exceeds label limitations. 

Can Arch top borrowed lights and diagonal cut borrowed lights be fire rated for 45 min?

Yes, but we can obtain these approvals only on a project by project basis at present.

Can the bottom of a frame in the field be cut off shorter and not void the label?

No modifications may be made in the field without a field inspection.

Is there a 2 Hour labeled frame for drywall walls?

CURRIES doesn’t have a frame with a 2 hour fire rating.  We have a frame with a 1-1/2 hour rating which is typically the frame that is used in a 2 hour drywall wall (verify with local jurisdiction).  

Can CURRIES label a WDEM profile frame?

Yes.

Can we put a "picture frame" (wood) around a CURRIES fire labeled frame and not void the fire label?

No wood or other materials may be applied to our frame with a label.

What is 'Noncombustible" sill?

The portion of the wall below the borrowed lite or half sidelite is considered a sill.  It is noncombustible if it is constructed of fire resistant materials (e.g. concrete or masonry block).

Where can the label be located on a transom panel?

It is located on the face of the panel.

Can a hole be filled on a labeled frame without voiding the label?

Yes, but it must be filled by welding a metal filler back into place on the frame and then only by a licensed second location fire labeling distributor.
